At Stanley Common Church of England Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all our children are happy and learning to the best of their abilities.
Some of our children will have special educational needs and/or disabilities, and we work together with parents and outside agencies to make sure that children have the best education possible in a supportive, inclusive environment.
Our school Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCO) is Mrs R Blurton. If you have any questions or queries you can ring (0115 932 2437), email (sendco@stanleycommon.derbyshire.sch.uk) or ask the school office for an appointment.
SEND stands for special educational needs and, or, disabilities. The SEND Code of Practice 2014 explains that:
“A student has SEN where their learning difficulty or disability calls for special educational provision, that is different from or additional to, that normally available to children and young people of the same age.”
During their time at school, many children will require additional support with their learning. Sometimes, additional support for a limited time can help a child to catch up to age related expectations. In other cases a child may require additional support for the duration of their time at school.
There are four main areas of SEND, children may have needs in one or more of these areas:
